Article Topics
The conceptual framework of Comprehensive School Health (CSH) that informs uOttawa’s teacher education cohort and research team is organized by the following three pillars:
- Healthy Living refers to the knowledge and skills required to participate and regularly engage in Daily Physical Activity (DPA) and healthy eating practices, in a way that builds feelings of confidence and competence.
- Healthy Relationships encompasses the various ways students interact with their peers, teachers, administrators, parents and the community to promote emotional well being.
- Healthy Environments extends to places where students feel safe, connected to the world in which they live and responsive in terms of positive actions that promote care and sustainability.
Only articles relating directly to Comprehensive School Health will be accepted for publication. Acceptable topics may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Holistic health
- Mental health
- Physical health
- Healthy relationships
- Physical Education
- Health Education
- Physical Literacy
- Heath-Promoting Programs such as school breakfast programs
Articles should be written in a way that links theory to practice with an education audience in mind. Articles should offer practical advice for teachers or the general public. Articles should add to and/or challenge existing concepts/programs relating to Comprehensive School Health.
Formatting Guidelines
Articles must adhere to a 1500-2500 word count.
In preparing articles for publication on the CSH website, authors should adhere to the most recent guidelines provided in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA).
Articles should be submitted in a Microsoft Word format.
Authors must provide references, where applicable.
Additional Requirements
Each article must be submitted with one to three photos. Each photo should relate directly to the content of the article. Images should add to, not take away from, the article content. Each image should have a title and/or caption that relates to the content of the article and explains the significance of the image.
Articles may also be accompanied by videos and/or attachments, where applicable.
Please note that articles that include photos and videos must also be accompanied by a signed consent form, providing the CSH website with permission to use this content. Parental consent is required for photos and videos of persons under the age of 18.
