Biography

Karen is a former Elementary School Principal and teacher with over 13 years experience working in Kindergarten-Grade 8 school settings in Ontario. After moving to British Columbia to complete her PhD in Education (Curriculum & Pedagogy), at UBC she followed this with post-doctoral research exploring physical education teacher education at The University of Queensland, Australia. Since returning to Canada in 2007, Karen has been an instructor in the Sport Science Department at Douglas College. Her research interests include curriculum & pedagogy as well as cultural studies related to physical education, sport, health, and the body. Most recently, Karen is a visiting professor with the Faculty of Education at The University of Ottawa teaching in the Bachelor of Education program and coordinating the Comprehensive School Health Cohort.

Karen brings an interest in promoting health across a school community. She is committed to facilitating collaboration between schools and communities to create sustaining health-promoting programs and believes teachers have a pivotal role as leaders in this process.
